About working with us
Plain answers about hiring a firm
Do you take cases outside Queens?
Our office is in Flushing, and most of our cases are in Queens courts. Tell us the address and we will say whether we can appear there. If we can't, we will point you to someone who can.
Can you stop an eviction?
No lawyer can promise an outcome. We can make sure the notice and the case follow the rules, raise every defense that fits, negotiate, and ask the court for time. We will tell you honestly what we think.
What if I can't afford a lawyer?
Tell us before you give up. Some cases qualify for free help from a legal services group or a court program, and we would rather point you there than have you go without. When we can take a case, we explain the fee in writing first, and you can ask us about a payment plan.
I don't have any papers. Can you still help?
Often, yes. Tell us what happened and when, and who the landlord is. We will tell you which papers to ask for or look for, and what to do while you wait.
How soon can you start?
Dates set the order. If you have a court date or a deadline in the next few days, put it in the first line of your message and say it again when you call.
Will you tell my landlord I contacted you?
No. Contacting us is private. We reach out to the other side only with your permission.
Can a family member call for me?
A family member can set up the call. Before we give advice on your case, we need to hear from you, or have your written okay to talk with them.
Is what I tell you confidential?
Once we agree to talk about your case, yes. Before that, please keep the form to the basics. This site isn't the place for sensitive details; we will tell you how to share them safely.
Your question is not here?
Ask us. A few lines are enough, in English or Spanish.
